the thing about life

life is too unpredictable to be complacent, and too beautiful to have to waste time burying regrets. we often wander around wearing masks that cloak our personalities, and speak in tongues that betray our authentic opinions. we settle for less because we want to please strangers and acquaintances, and cater to the envy, spite, gas-lighting of wisdom givers who take the form of loved ones.

we forget the tranquillity that can be found in the simplest of things, and try to simplify the complexity needed to thrive and grow as individuals. we shun away self-preservation, and instead trade it for the decay negativity does to our souls, and appear to be content mulling about what could be, instead of being fearless and letting ourselves trip, fall and hurt, because to hell with it – at least we now have the answers to our ruminating thoughts.

i love you isn’t said quite enough because to feel is to be vulnerable. and realising when to abandon sinking ships is a sin, because we’ll be damned to eternal judgement if we dare love ourselves enough to cut ties with toxicity. but to forgive and forgive and see the good in everyone, despite the horrendous streak of red flags they carry, is turned into a burden, for it’s exploited and turned into a weakness by others.

to want to stray from what’s social norm, and find happiness elsewhere is to be an outcast. we restrict ourselves by categorising our dreams into either reality or fantasy, and then burn ourselves out chasing things aimlessly to prove others wrong, rather than to gain self-satisfaction.

we reap what we sow, but what we sow doesn’t feed our hunger or quench the thirst we have, because we have failed to listen to what we truly desire in life. our mind is operating on the system flexed to us on social media, our heart is beating to what our environment is telling us to prosper on, and our soul has been cleansed by the baptising of mainstream education that neglects to teach us the basics about humanity.

but it’s not too late to be your own identity. to manipulate the words thrown at you, and create your own voice to strike a chord against the millions of people out there. you owe it to yourself to die having fulfilled your ambitions.

life is too short to loan it out to others on a contract, and sign away your identity to corporate monsters. life is too beautiful to not live every day making a memory that fills you with warmth.

the thing about life is that it’s too unpredictable to be complacent about it. some will be blessed to live longer than others, but the fact still remains, we will all touch base with our deathbed at one point or another. and wouldn’t it be a beautiful thing, to be able to reflect and celebrate the life that blossomed out of you, rather than mourn all the regrets of dreams that got suffocated by the hands of others, whilst you remained a prisoner caged inside the fake persona you engineered for yourself?

In an effort to simplify a long comment I thought I’d tell you what I liked the most about this post…..and then I realized that I LOVED it all 🙌😂 I want to stop mourning past regrets and instead focus on doing all that is in my power to not just repeat the cycle or even just stop calling them regrets and accept them as mistakes as they are a way of life and it’s my viewpoint on them that is damaging. That part about categorizing our dreams really hit home, why do we do that?? Imma make my fantasy a reality 😂✨ Another truly amazing piece written by you that made me really think. Great post! 💫💕

elsieeeeeee ❤ my heart always flutters when i see that you've stopped by my blog, because you always leave such pure comments, and they make my day, and i love having essay type convos with you 😀

thank you SO much – that is so SWEET of you to say!! what you just said there – "my viewpoint on them that is damaging" – i love that! i've never thought of it like that until now so thank you for that realisation. we can channel the regret into being life lessons that help us do better. i have no idea why we do that, but i guess it could be partially down to what other people say "oh be realistic" or "is that feasible" so i guess to play it safe we have the dreams we think we can achieve, and then the dreams we can achieve with a lot of difficulty that we immediately shun into the fantasy box?! idk haha that was a mess of a ramble of words. HERE'S TO MAKING OUR FANTASIES A REALITY!! thank you for your comment, and i hope you're having a lovely weekend ❤

Oh gosh I almost forgot just how good a writer you are. “We settle for less because we want to please strangers”. That line made me scream gosh🌟🌟 I’ve always felt that.
I honestly cant stop rereading this one. And I mean it. :)))

*sheds a tear* this is just the SWEETEST comment ever! really made me smile – thank you so much!

for so long of my life, i’ve been such a people pleaser or made passive decisions to keep peace, but i’m proud to say, with time and experiences, i’ve learned to slowly stand up for myself and my dreams. and i am rooting for you, and i hope you find yourself pleasing less strangers as time goes by!

hope you have a lovely weekend, and once again, thank you for stopping by 😀

“realising when to abandon sinking ships is a sin, because we’ll be damned to eternal judgement if we dare love ourselves enough to cut ties with toxicity” — I’m experiencing this right now and the worst thing is that the judgement doesn’t even come from others, but from myself, for even daring to think to let go of a certain toxic person…
I love this post and the way you write and put into words what I myself have experienced throughout my life!

wow, it really means a lot, to hear that my words can be felt empathically by others, or related to on some levels!

i understand to some extent how you may be feeling. it’s such a horrible and draining internal battle trying to let go of self-judgement. i guess it just shows just how selfless you are at putting others before your needs! i want to reassure you, it’s okay, if someone is contributing to your life in a negative way, it’s okay to take a step back, if that’s what’s best for you. and don’t be so hard on yourself. because you don’t owe it to ANYONE to fix anyone else’s life or deal with all the toxicity and burn yourself out.

      hope things work out
