this is what they don’t tell you

this is what they don’t tell you:

not all heroes were made overnight;
it took weeks, months,
hell
even years to craft their weaknesses
into invincible strengths.
not all villains have
evil coursing through their veins;
some are painted to
be the spawn of the devil
in order to be oppressed
by the Devil himself
who wears the face of an angel
amongst us all.
not all broken souls
wear a sad smile
or have scars to prove
it across their skin;
some have the jolliest eyes
and most warming smiles
but inside they are
dying
and no one will
ever know.
not all soulmates
are meant to belong
together;
perhaps for a fleeting moment
but when things turn sour
and all you taste is
bitterness at the back
of your throat
that you’re downing with a
pint or two of toxicity,
it’s time to rip your heart
out and leave.
not all figureheads
in your life will
bless you with unconditional love;
with some you will need to battle
for it and end up
losing
and you’ll be gifted with
players that weren’t on the
chess board to begin with
and then it’ll be your
turn to say
checkmate.
and lastly,
not all promises
can be kept;
no one can foresee
how people change
and how time
distorts perspective
and how volatile
emotions can be.

this is what they forget to tell
us
when they’re telling us about
the good old world;
they don’t tell us about the
truths we need to hear
instead they feed us
with honey
as if that’s supposed
to heal our wounds.

but it’s okay,
because now you have
the truths;
this is what they don’t tell
us.
