snapshot of reality

 

she stared through the lens
into the minds of others
and wondered  why
we were like dominos
one strike
and we all tumbled over
yet we either care so much
for each other
that we fail to pay heed to ourselves
or we’re so
full
of self -love that
we
fail
to save the ones that
need saving.

she adjusted the focus
and admired
how quickly memories were
erased
and
created
just like the
sea
all consuming
and unwary
of the destruction we can cause
within the space of a second.

the light flickers across her vision
as she sees how
we adopt self destructive habits
when we’re at our lowest
so we set ourselves alight
and wait for the ember to die down
maybe we hope we’re
like phoenixes
and will rise from the ashes
but there’s only so much
we can
take
and not
give
back.
