A child of the snowy winter she is ft Tanya

A child of the snowy winter she is

Alas! Unlike Snow White, she isn’t fair skinned

Her skin isn’t shiny nor are her cheeks rosy

Her long hair didn’t fall perfectly into place

It floated in thin air messily, with a hint of grace

She was no princess living in a far away kingdom

Who had ball dances to attend and wore colourful gowns

This child of winter slaved in the cold, till her fingers were numb

She didn’t have seven dwarves to help her, a queen without her crown

The snow magnificent in its beauty was no match for her

Instead others viewed her as the girl in rags

The girl who walks barefoot through the blanket of snow

Leaving behind legacies of footprints

Because she was the child without manicured nails

The girl who wasn’t as slim as Sleeping Beauty

Or with hair as stunning as Rapunzel

Nor was she the girl waiting for a Prince to come save her,

Come save her from the reality of the world

Where we aren’t accepted for being human

A child of the snowy winter she is

A child nonetheless surviving the judgemental world

Where Christmas trees take pride in the living rooms,

And the star glows at the top

She holds a bauble in her scarred palm

And gazes at the reflection of the world

As the snow falls gently outside

Tis the season to be jolly

Carry the warmth and love you feel for others

With you

Every day, everywhere, just not for Christmas

A child of the snowy winter she is

The snow magnificent in its beauty was no match for her,

Yet the beautiful warmth of her heart was no match for the cold snow.

Today’s poem was created by Tanya and myself. You can find more amazing poems written by Tanya here; a personal favourite of mine is I am Sorry.

Have a beautiful day!

When I read your beginning I was literally amazed. The way you brought in all these fairytale characters was so original and I couldn’t have continued it without you! Thank you so much! I loved working with you 💕
